Any time boost is turned up, cylinder pressure increases. Once a certain level is reached, the cylinder heads can actually distort and lift away from the engine block, which can cause major engine damage. Some people have had holes burnt in their engine block and cylinder heads, which are both aluminum in our case.
The solution to dealing with higher cylinder pressure is to replace the factory OEM head bolts with high strength head studs. This will increase clamping load and help keep the block and heads from deforming under major stress. We highly recommend the ARP head stud kit at boost levels above 25 to 30 psi. This kit includes 16 head studs, patterned washers and hex nuts, along with a packet of fastener assembly lubricant.
