So I was at one of the biggest car shows in western Ohio in Lima at a Cadillac Chevy Auto Mall and as I left to head home about 4.30 pm the guy parked next to me was right behind me as I headed to I-75. It was about a four mile trip on the Dixie Highway also known as 25A which was the major north-south route in the U.S. until I-75 was completed. It basically runs parallel to I-75 all the way to Florida. If you live in western Ohio 25A is where you settle horsepower wars. This guy is driving a ‘72 Nova with a 396 4M and it sounded like a monster. Headers and idled like it was cammed. It had the hood punched out so the hi-rise manifold and two Holley carbs could breathe. This guy was behind me at every light gunning the motor and sticking to my rear. I stayed in the left lane and let him pull beside me doing about 35 and lunged about a 1/2 car on him and braked and he came right up on me again. I told my g-daughters to roll down their windows and when he looked over to wave bye bye. When they waved I was in 2nd doing 35 and I jumped on it and he did also surprisingly fast but it was all over. His motor sounded beautiful as it faded away. It was no contest. I let up about 70 ( in a 55 zone) but he let up early because….well….. he realized his car sucked. It wasn’t even close. The EVH Stripes and vanity plates make me a target for everyone who thinks they have a fast car. I enjoy spanking V8 muscle cars from the 60’s and 70’s.
I had my first Tapout Tuning dyno session on May 16th 2018 in Columbus, Ohio and on the way home I ran into rush hour traffic and could not really stretch my ATS-V’s legs and check out the tune I just received. May 17th was a different story as I drove around Northern Mexico getting used to the newfound horsepower and torque. I probably put about 75 miles on the car that day looking for excuses to get in my ATS-V and drive somewhere. The additional 100 ft-lbs of torque at about 3,500 RPM was amazing. Towards the end of my day I was heading north on a highway in northern Mexico minding my own business but watching a Porsche in my rear view mirror rapidly making its way around the cars between us and finally I find this guy and his Porsche on my left in the fast lane just keeping pace with me. The guy driving never looked at me so after a half mile or so I moved over into the right lane and dropped back a bit and this guy without hesitation moved over into the center lane and dropped back to once again keep pace without me…but never one time looking at me. So I slow down again and can see that this arrogant Porsche owner is driving a Porsche Panamera Turbo S. Not a too shabby ride. And once again the Porsche slows down and just keeps pace with me and once again he never looked over at me…….he just stared straight ahead. Now I’m just a little pissed so I decided to put an end to this arrogant Porsche owner’s disrespect and I put my car in Manual Mode and dropped down to 3rd gear somewhere between 50 and 55 mph and I heard him kick down at least two gears and I just hammered it and almost immediately he did the same but it didn’t do him any good because I slowly pulled away from him to about 85 mph. It was over in three seconds. He was not able to regain a single inch on me. So he comes up on me a second time never looking at me so I gave his car the thumbs down sign after which he performed the obligatory Loser’s Fly By and disappeared ahead of me. I wonder what story this particular Porsche owner told to his fellow Porsche owners after he came to terms w/ having his ass handed to him by a lowly Cadillac.
