Our Tapout Intercooler Fill/Bleed Kit has been wildly popular, and some of the do-it-yourselfers out there have been requesting an option to just purchase the wiring harness so they can build their own kit. We are happy to provide that option so we can ensure that whether you purchase our full kit, or just the wiring harness alone, your ATS-V can have a properly functioning intercooler. This kit includes the fuse and fuse tap, in addition to the wiring harness.
The factory intercooler is a sealed system with total capacity of 3.3 quarts. There is no reservoir, and any air pocket will stop the intercooler pump from running after five seconds, rendering your intercooler worthless. This can create an unsafe scenario for a turbocharged car, especially when boost is turned up via an aftermarket tune. When the pump is off, manifold air temperature (MAT) skyrockets under boost. The ECM will respond by reducing target boost, pulling ignition timing advance and closing the throttle.
We always check intercooler performance before adding boost on every car we tune. Approximately 25% of ATS-Vs have a completely non-functional intercooler, and another 25% have intercoolers that seem to work fine at stock boost levels, but need bled and filled in order to keep up with higher boost levels.
