James from Ohio had just purchased a 2017 ATS-V and the only information he was able to get from the seller was that it should “only run straight E85”. That being said, we knew the car must have had several modifications done to allow for that. After looking his ATS-V over from top to bottom and taking a data scan during a drive, we found that his fuel system was quite overtaxed at the ethanol content he was running. That’s a dangerous for an LF4, especially if James were to go WOT. We recommended dropping the ethanol content to E60 – E70 because that’s what his current fuel mods could safely accommodate.

We discussed all of this information with James and provided him an overview on everything we found with his ATS-V. He was happy to know exactly what he was working with so he could not only improve the performance, but also improve the safety and reliable of his ATS-V. Our friend D’Angelo came down from Michigan to the Tapout Tuning Headquarters for his Purple Belt Performance Package and Mace Stage 1 cams installation to crank things up with his ATS-V. This package and cam combination with our tuning produces an incredible powerband that you can truly see and feel.

Notice that his torque was above 600 from 3,000 to 5,500 rpm and his horsepower was above 600 all the way from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm! That means D’Angelo has access to a massive amount of horsepower and torque at almost any time, just look at that powerband! As we’ve gotten to know our Blackwing better, there have been multiple “Easter Eggs” that we’ve come across throughout the car. Little details that may be missed at a quick glance are placed all over the interior and exterior. Subtle nods to the V nameplate add a level of detail that is greatly appreciated by any automotive enthusiast.

However, you’d be surprised by how little you actually see the Blackwing name listed anywhere on the car. As far as we can tell the only four places you will see the Blackwing name, on both door sills and both of the front seats.

Regardless, there are nice touches all over and there’s even one we couldn’t get to show up on camera. If you look at the taillights on both sides of the car you will notice the Cadillac crest embossed within the inner red of the taillight. It’s something most people would never notice, and that’s why we like it even more. It’s clear to us that when GM designed the Blackwing, no detail was too small. We feel lucky to drive a car that has such incredible attention to detail.

I’m sure as time goes on we will find more surprises like this, and we look forward to everything new we find!
