Mr. X was working with another tuner when his stock turbos destroyed themselves. So he took the opportunity to replace them with some aftermarket ones, but unfortunately, the same thing happened two weeks later. And this time, the impellers went through the engine and destroyed everything in their path.

At that point, Mr. X decided to make the switch to Tapout Tuning, and when we looked things over in person, we realized the damage was catastrophic. We pulled the tune that was currently in his ATS-V to see if there were any clues as to what could have caused this failure. Upon checking out the previous tuners work, we saw that they had completely maxed out the turbocharger wastegate duty cycle table. This no doubt led to the turbos spinning fast enough that they destroyed themselves.

We replaced the long block assembly and Mr. X upgraded to our Caddy Issues turbos. After proper break-in time we put his ATS-V on the dyno so we could dial things in. Final results were a beautiful powerband all the way to 7,000 rpm with peak power of 691 whp while still running OEM compressor inlets. This is one fast M6 ATS-V!

Normally when you hear ‘Kill Tune’, you associate it with our Purple Belt Package. However, in the case of our friend Jason in Tennessee, he wanted to take a different approach. Last year at Cadillac Attack, Jorge installed a fuel cam in the parking lot for him and that led to some impressive times on the track. This year, he was eager to push things further.

We connected with him for a Remote Dyno Tune so we could see how far we could take his ATS-V without the use of ethanol or methanol. After multiple pulls to dial things in, final results were 619 whp and 686 wtq on race fuel! That’s impressive on these cars for sure, and Jason plans to go further by installing an upgraded LPFP so he can put his car into the nines!

One way or another, people find a way to get their cars to the Tapout Tuning shop in cold and chilly Ohio. In this case, Charley had a good friend drive his CT4-V Blackwing to our shop from Florida so we could install our Blue Belt Performance Package. That’s a good friend, and a lucky one too! Jorge worked his magic getting all of the parts installed so we could strap it to the Dyno and get to work on the tuning.

After we were finished, peak power increased from 416 to 546 whp, providing more power at every single point across the powerband. Multiple 546 whp pulls were done back to back using E30 fuel and a custom calibration map that we created in-house. We also made sure to provide Charley with a 93-octane pump gas map in case his friend wasn’t able to locate an E85 station on the nearly 1,200 mile trip back to Florida.

We’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made on performance parts, tuning, and complete performance packages for the CT4-V Blackwings that were originally thought to be ‘untunable’. Needless to say, we will continue to innovate and push this platform further than ever thought possible!

Our long-term customer and friend Chris shipped his baby all the way from California for Jorge’s magic touch. We installed our extremely popular Purple Belt Performance Package with Mace Stage 1 valve springs, titanium retainers and camshafts. First tune was fully automatic flex fuel, which ranged from 472 whp on 91-octane pump gas up to 573 whp on E60 or higher. Kill Tune is safe from E60 to E70 and put down a fantastic powerband peaking at 606 whp and 624 wtq. This just goes to show, you can still make great power even with lower octane fuel!

The ATS-V continues to possess its own unique quirks and intricacies that make it stand out from every other mainstream platform out there. One particular instance of this was with our good friend Alex in Washington who was actually one of our very first customers we tuned more than four years ago. After installing our Purple Belt Package, he had his heads ported to see if he could pick up more power. Oddly enough, his ATS-V was actually down on power compared what we usually see with Purple Belt cars.

Alex decided to ship his ATS-V to us in Ohio so we could not only to confirm his ported heads were the problem, but also to install our complete Brown Belt Package! After swapping on a new set of stock LF4 heads and Jorge completing every detail of the Performance Package installation, we were able to strap his car to the dyno. Our suspicions were confirmed when we saw the power numbers we expected for a 92 octane/E85 Brown Belt car. When we finished up, his ATS-V made 689 whp with a beautiful powerband! The only thing left to do was get Alex’s ATS-V detailed and shipped back out to Washington for him to enjoy!
