Prevent Misfires with Tapout Tuning!

Many ATS-V owners have installed colder spark plugs and were surprised to have a misfire under boost. We’re going to resolve this for you today.

In our experience, misfires under boost after spark plug changes are always caused by one of two factors. First, you should always reduce the spark plug gap when you increase boost. Turning up the boost increases cylinder pressure. It’s more difficult for the spark to jump the gap in a higher-pressure environment, so you solve this by reducing the plug gap. Stock LF4 spark plugs are gapped between .030 and .035″. This works great for OEM boost levels. However, when you increase your boost with an aftermarket tune your car will perform better with spark plugs gapped in the sweet spot of .026 to .028″.

The second cause of misfires under boost after changing spark plugs is failure to use dielectric grease. This grease prevents carbon tracking, which is when the spark arcs on the outside of the plug (inside the rubber boot). It does this because the air inside the boot provides less resistance than jumping the spark plug gap inside the highly pressurized cylinders. The higher your boost, the worse the problem. Coating the spark plug connector or lining the inside of the rubber boot increases the resistance along this path, forcing the voltage to jump across the spark plug gap in the proper manner.

When you replace the spark plugs, always apply anti-seize to the spark plug threads and dielectric grease on the inside of the coil pack connector boots. This will ensure the plugs can be easily removed in the future and displace air inside the robber boots, which will in turn prevent carbon tracking and misfires under boost.

In an attempt to move the entire community forward, Tapout Tuning will begin including packets of both dielectric connector grease and anti-seize lubricant at no charge with every spark plug order we ship.

Brisk Silver Racing Spark Plugs Now in Stock!

At Tapout we aren’t just here to provide you with an incredible tune, we also work to source the best aftermarket products for your ATS-V. We stand behind every product we sell because we use them on our own ATS-Vs and would never recommend anything less than the absolute best.

That’s why we’re happy to now be offering Brisk Silver Racing Spark Plugs. For those wanting a plug that’s pre-gapped and offers maximum performance, Brisk plugs are a better option than Denso or NGK iridium spark plugs. The silver in the Brisk spark plugs conducts electricity much better than iridium.

NGK Iridium IX spark plugs are still the best choice if you don’t mind gapping your plugs and want them to last 25,000 to 50,000 miles. Brisk Silver Racing Plugs are best if you’re purely looking for performance. If you want to know what the best plugs for your application is, give us a call and we’ll find what’s right for you.

Make sure you head over to TapoutTuning.com to find more information on these products so you can become part of the #TapoutTakeover!

M6 Launch with Boost Mode!

Now that stronger clutches are available in this market, we are proud to announce a new feature which is included with all Tapout Tunes for M6 cars. When you put your car in first gear the ECM knows you’re in first and applies the first gear rev limiter. We have programmed a different rev limiter when you’re in first gear and push the clutch all the way to the floor. This gives us the ability to hold the accelerator and clutch pedals to the floor at the starting line and launch at whatever engine speed we want.

At the track this rev limiter will actually build boost as the lights come down. This means we can now launch our M6 cars under boost! Initially we have this set to 6,000 rpm, which works amazingly well if you slip the clutch with drag radials. By the way, we have already taken the liberty to rewrite all existing M6 customer tunes, and updates were emailed to everyone at no charge. This is just one more way we work to make sure your driving experience the best it can be, and we’re not going to stop because it’s a #TapoutTakeover!

Tapout Tune of the Week!

We’re starting this week off with a bang as we present another Tapout Tune of the Week! This time we are featuring Dave from Florida who originally had what he called a “canned tune from one of the big shops”. He has a 2016 ATS-V sedan with M6 transmission and wasn’t totally satisfied with his current tune. He knew something was missing.

He found it when he ordered a remote tune from Tapout because he saw that we don’t take the “canned tune” approach. We develop a custom tune just for your car’s hardware combination and driving style while leaving all factory safety parameters in place. We completed an initial scan on Dave’s car, and saw where we could make several improvements over his old tune. After a few more scans and adjustments we had significantly improved the performance of his ATS-V.

In Dave’s own words, “this car with your tune is a monster!” We take our tunes very seriously and understand the importance of having your car drive how YOU want it to. After our final adjustments this is what Dave had to say; “The final product is a tune that has a little more power than my previous tune but more importantly, has a broader power range, and is much more responsive and smoother in power delivery.” It’s part of our philosophy to tune your car as if it were our own, so you can rest easy knowing your car is protected when you’re leaving your competition in the dust!

Jorge Munoz Takes Top Spot in Stock ATS-V Rankings!

When it comes to tuning, we don’t mess around. We unlock as much power as possible to provide you with the driving feel you’ve always wanted. Every time you drive, we want it to be an experience, something that gets your heart racing and wanting more. That’s just what a Tapout Tune does, all while keeping your factory safety settings in place so you never have to worry about a thing.

Our friend Jorge Munoz knows exactly what we’re talking about because he just took the top spot int he Stock ATS-V Quarter Mile Rankings! Jorge is a serious driver and takes full advantage of the extra power our Tapout Tune has provided him. He drives his ATS-V to its full potential, and on Wednesday after hopping right off the highway with no cool down, Jorge ran a new person best time of 11.735 @ 118.04 mph at Orlando Speed World! In the Stock ATS-V category no hardware modifications, race tires, or weight reductions are permitted. All he has is a Tapout Tune. He was even running 93-octane pump gas!

There’s nothing that excites us more than seeing our friends crush their old records and moving up the quarter mile rankings. If you don’t have a Tapout Tune and are trying to move up the rankings, you better look out because it’s a #TapoutTakeover!

Check out Jorge’s time slip and spot in the quarter mile rankings below:
