Caddy Issues Turbos for the Win!

Mr. X was working with another tuner when his stock turbos destroyed themselves. So he took the opportunity to replace them with some aftermarket ones, but unfortunately, the same thing happened two weeks later. And this time, the impellers went through the engine and destroyed everything in their path.

At that point, Mr. X decided to make the switch to Tapout Tuning, and when we looked things over in person, we realized the damage was catastrophic. We pulled the tune that was currently in his ATS-V to see if there were any clues as to what could have caused this failure. Upon checking out the previous tuners work, we saw that they had completely maxed out the turbocharger wastegate duty cycle table. This no doubt led to the turbos spinning fast enough that they destroyed themselves.

We replaced the long block assembly and Mr. X upgraded to our Caddy Issues turbos. After proper break-in time we put his ATS-V on the dyno so we could dial things in. Final results were a beautiful powerband all the way to 7,000 rpm with peak power of 691 whp while still running OEM compressor inlets. This is one fast M6 ATS-V!

CT5-V Blackwing Green Performance Filter!

CT5-V Blackwing Green Performance Filters are here! We worked in conjunction with Green Filter to design this air filter for maximum performance. Green filters are constructed with four layers of tightly woven cotton gauze, rather than open cell foam. This is thinner, stronger, and easier to clean than other materials. If you look closely at the competitor’s aftermarket filter design, you’ll see they avoided adding the angle, which reduced the overall surface area. By increasing surface area, this design actually increases air flow.

Green Filter uses stainless or annealed steel mesh, which is stronger and allows more intake pressure, compared to the competition which uses aluminum instead. Green’s filter oil is 100% synthetic, which is safe for all engine sensors. The oil provides a positive magnetic charge, which attracts negatively charged dust, trapping particles as small as 5 microns. Easy to install, clean and maintain. And the cherry on top? They’re made right here in the good old U.S. of A. and we couldn’t be happier about it!

Blue Belt Kill Tune!

Normally when you hear ‘Kill Tune’, you associate it with our Purple Belt Package. However, in the case of our friend Jason in Tennessee, he wanted to take a different approach. Last year at Cadillac Attack, Jorge installed a fuel cam in the parking lot for him and that led to some impressive times on the track. This year, he was eager to push things further.

We connected with him for a Remote Dyno Tune so we could see how far we could take his ATS-V without the use of ethanol or methanol. After multiple pulls to dial things in, final results were 619 whp and 686 wtq on race fuel! That’s impressive on these cars for sure, and Jason plans to go further by installing an upgraded LPFP so he can put his car into the nines!

The Tapout Tuning Mantra

Tapout Tuning has continued to evolve since its inception; however, our mantra has always remained the same: Provide the safest, most powerful tuning options, the highest quality parts, and the most experienced installations anywhere in the country.

We’ve continued to push the envelope, particularly so with the new Blackwing platform that was previously thought to be ‘untunable’. In the year and a half since we’ve begun that venture there were no easy roads, but still, we persevered. We’re proud to say that in that time we’ve begun to see what the CT4-V Blackwings are really capable of:

* First to dyno a CTV-4 Blackwing.
* First to tune a CTV-4 Blackwing on gasoline.
* First to tune a CTV-4 Blackwing on 100 octane.
* First to tune a CTV-4 Blackwing on E85 fuel blend.
* First to modify a CTV-4 Blackwing.
* First to hit 500 whp with a CT4-V Blackwing.
* First to hit 600 whp with a CT4-V Blackwing.
* First to hit 700 whp with a CT4-V Blackwing.
* First to run 10s with a CT4-V Blackwing.

And in case you’ve ever wondered where the Tapout Tuning name came from, our founder Scott Cook has been studying the art of Jiu-Jitsu for the past ten years. After 100 tournament matches and 2,000 training sessions he officially earned his black belt! As you know, our Performance Packages follow the white, blue, purple, and brown belts of Jiu-Jitsu, and now that Scott has his black belt, it seems only fitting that we officially announce our black belt packages in 2023.😉

There’s lots of exciting things to come for the LF4 platform, not to mention all things Blackwing! We’re headed to PRI in Indianapolis tomorrow so we can continue to develop the best possible products and service, so stay tuned for much more!

CT4-V Blackwing E30 Tuning!

One way or another, people find a way to get their cars to the Tapout Tuning shop in cold and chilly Ohio. In this case, Charley had a good friend drive his CT4-V Blackwing to our shop from Florida so we could install our Blue Belt Performance Package. That’s a good friend, and a lucky one too! Jorge worked his magic getting all of the parts installed so we could strap it to the Dyno and get to work on the tuning.

After we were finished, peak power increased from 416 to 546 whp, providing more power at every single point across the powerband. Multiple 546 whp pulls were done back to back using E30 fuel and a custom calibration map that we created in-house. We also made sure to provide Charley with a 93-octane pump gas map in case his friend wasn’t able to locate an E85 station on the nearly 1,200 mile trip back to Florida.

We’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made on performance parts, tuning, and complete performance packages for the CT4-V Blackwings that were originally thought to be ‘untunable’. Needless to say, we will continue to innovate and push this platform further than ever thought possible!
